Maybe this is the form nesting takes with me, but here I am, starting a blog.
Actually, what prompted it is the response I've been getting to the survey my friend Sarah created to help Steve and me navigate the landscape of baby stuff -- his last child was born almost 18 years ago, in what now seems like the dark ages of the waning 20th century. There wasn't nearly as much "stuff" around that you could get, or had to think about, it seems.
Anyway, we figured we'd get some advice from our larger circle of friends, family and acquaintances on what was useful, turned out to be essential, or was just redundant gear. Then others asked to see the results, and I figured once the little bundle of joy arrives it'll be easier to update one central place rather than trying to figure out people's emails.
So, here is the link to the survey, which will stay around at least until mid-July.
I'll post the results here once we have analyzed them :-)

We had our daughter almost 24 years ago, which prompted my brother-in-law who has just had his first child (well, his wife did most of the work), to say to me, "I haven't asked you anything about how to care for a baby because you had yours so long ago that everything's different now." I'd just like to say that only the gadgets have changed, and not that much at that (they all need batteries now). Taking care of a baby is the same as it's always been: do what comes naturally, and feels comfortable and safe. The two friends you quoted in your survey result blog are right on. (My brother-in-law and his wife have their two month old on a feeding and sleeping schedule - so, surprise, their baby cries every waking moment.) Follow your instincts, as I'm sure you will.
Welcome to our crazy fun world little Freya!!! We hear you were born like a fish, in the water. What fun! I'm sure you will love your baths and soon be in the ocean joining your mama swimming with the fishes. We can't wait to meet you. Your mama says you are the most beautiful girl in the world. Try to sleep about 4 hours at a time. This will make your mama really happy. Welcome welcome!!! And tell your mama and papa, congratulations.
love, Phil and Julia
